Ingredients

  • 1 tsp matcha powder (ceremonial grade recommended)

  • 1 oz hot water (just below boiling, around 80°C/175°F)

  • 2 oz whiskey (a smooth Japanese whiskey like Suntory Toki works well)

  • 4–6 oz soda water (chilled)

  • Ice cubes

  • Optional garnish: Lemon twist or mint sprig

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Matcha Base

    • Sift the matcha powder into a bowl or cup to remove any clumps.

    • Add the hot water and whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk (or small whisk) until smooth and frothy.

  2. Combine with Whiskey

    • In a highball glass, add the whiskey. Slowly pour the prepared matcha into the glass, stirring gently to combine.

  3. Add Ice and Soda Water

    • Fill the glass with ice cubes.

    • Top with chilled soda water, pouring gently to maintain the fizz.

  4. Garnish and Serve

    • Garnish with a lemon twist or a sprig of mint for added aroma.
