Ingredients
1 tsp matcha powder (ceremonial grade recommended)
1 oz hot water (just below boiling, around 80°C/175°F)
2 oz whiskey (a smooth Japanese whiskey like Suntory Toki works well)
4–6 oz soda water (chilled)
Ice cubes
Optional garnish: Lemon twist or mint sprig
Instructions
Prepare the Matcha Base
Sift the matcha powder into a bowl or cup to remove any clumps.
Add the hot water and whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk (or small whisk) until smooth and frothy.
Combine with Whiskey
In a highball glass, add the whiskey. Slowly pour the prepared matcha into the glass, stirring gently to combine.
Add Ice and Soda Water
Fill the glass with ice cubes.
Top with chilled soda water, pouring gently to maintain the fizz.
Garnish and Serve
Garnish with a lemon twist or a sprig of mint for added aroma.
